Sheriff calls off Mt. Hood search - Yahoo! News

Sad, But Not the End. Though the search has been called off for the missing climbers, we all know the questions will remain, what if? I have experience with lowland Search & Rescue, and it is something you don't WANT to give up on. I have been following this story, and it is hard to say what happened. From an outsiders view, this seems like a tragic accident, and SAR professionals did everything they could to find those guys. You must remember what they are dealing with is finding someone on a giant mass of rock and ice, with hidden areas no one will ever see. From all accounts they did a hell of job with what they could.

This brings up something to think about for yourselves. If you do anything in the outdoors, you should know what you are doing, and be prepared, as well as prepare your family, that things can go wrong. If you do extraordinary things, extraordinary circumstances can present themselves. If you have read or watched anything on this story i would encourage you to seek out local rescue services and donate some money or supplies. Many rescuers are volunteers, and even the Military is under funded for this kind of operations. Give to your local Volunteer Groups. I will add a section on this soon.
